Itinerary Details

  • Day 1: Arrival and Briefing Upon arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO), you will be transferred to your hotel in Arusha. After settling in, you will attend a pre-climb briefing to review your gear and prepare for the journey ahead.

  • Day 2: Londorossi Gate to Mti Mkubwa (Big Tree) Camp Drive to the Londorossi Gate on the western side of the mountain for registration. Begin your trek with a 3-hour hike through the misty rainforest to Mti Mkubwa Camp (9,500 ft), keeping an eye out for unique flora and fauna.

  • Day 3: Forest Camp to Shira One Camp Leave the rainforest behind as you ascend toward the moorland zone. This 5-to-6-hour climb brings you onto the expansive Shira Plateau (11,500 ft), offering your first dramatic views of Kibo peak.

  • Day 4: Shira One to Moir Hut Trek across the high-altitude Shira Caldera, a landscape of volcanic rock formations. This steady 5-to-7-hour ascent to Moir Hut helps push your elevation higher to prepare your body for the summit.

  • Day 5: Acclimatization at Lava Tower A critical day for acclimatization. You will climb to the striking 300-foot Lava Tower (15,190 ft) for lunch before descending into the Barranco Valley (13,044 ft), which is home to unique giant Senecio plants.

  • Day 6: The Barranco Wall to Karanga Camp Start the morning with a fun scramble up the famous Barranco Wall, a non-technical climb offering incredible rewards and views of Kibo. Continue across an undulating trail through alpine desert to reach Karanga Camp for a warm lunch.

  • Day 7: Karanga Camp to Barafu (Base) Camp Move through the stark alpine desert to reach Barafu Camp (15,300 ft), your final staging ground. The afternoon is dedicated to rest and hydration as you prepare for the midnight summit attempt.

  • Day 8: Summit Day – Uhuru Peak Begin your push to the summit around 1 AM. Ascend through heavy scree to reach the crater rim at Gillman's Point by sunrise, then continue to Uhuru Peak (19,341 ft)β€”the highest point in Africa. Afterward, descend to Mweka Hut for your final night on the mountain.

  • Day 9: Mweka Camp to Moshi Complete your journey with a final 3-to-4-hour descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. After receiving your gold certificate, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi for a well-deserved hot shower.
